This way the brewers layering and sparge process is out of the equation. Very few brewers calculate their conversion though... I get 9497% conversion depending on the recipe and mash temp. 8087% mash efficiency depending on recipe. I've only had to adjust either of them during my initial setup and testing.

That motor seems on the weak side but it all depends on the mill that you plan on driving. The max RPM's seems on the low side as well (135 RPM). For comparison my mill motor is 180 RPM at ftlbs. This Link motor works with the Barley Crusher based on a member of the beer club.

The optimal gap will be affected by the knurling specific to each mill, so a reliable "standard" probably can't exist. If one has a mill, it usually comes with a recommended gap, a good place to start. fwiw, the recommended gap on the infamous Barley Crusher is .039". Cheers!

I was also comparing these two, and ended up with the Cereal Killer mainly because of the use of ball bearings rather than sleeves. The mill is mounted into an old cabinet with an old but restored 1940's 1/4 hp motor, reduced from 1750 down to <200rpm using " and 14" sheaves (about : 1).

At 29 days postpitch, I took a final SG reading and found the coarse crush beer had dropped a smidge to SG while the fine crush beer was at SG. Left: coarse crush FG | Right: fine crush FG. It was at this point the beers were cold crashed, hit with some Biofine, then kegged and force carbonated.

This sounds like the knurling on the rollers might be getting flattened. This can be an issue in commercial mills, too. The knurl not only pulls the grain through the gap, but punches a hole in the fattest part of the grain. Ideally, the grain spins in the process, flinging grits out of the husk. A few thoughts:

Yes the cereal killer is made in china I believe by the company that started out making the mill parts for the barley crusher which has american made rollers (which is soft compared to other mills and wears down requiring replacement in many cases) but most of the other components on it come from china.

If so I suggest you do search here on "worn roller barley crusher" or just search "grain mill worn roller" and you'll find the threads are all related to the barley crusher... Your problem is a very common issue with the Barley crusher mills. You can send the mill back to take the roller replaced and it should only cost you shipping and handling...
